Liverpool transfers: CONCERNING Van Dijk update after Klopp exit 'disappointment'

Virgil van Dijk is reportedly considering his Liverpool future after being 'disappointed' by Jurgen Klopp's decision to leave Anfield at the end of the season.

The Dutchman was named Liverpool skipper at the start of the campaign following Jordan Henderson's exit and has guided the Reds to the Carabao Cup this term, scoring the winning goal in the final against Chelsea.

The 32-year-old has been back to his imperious best for much of the campaign, although he has also suffered from a dip in performance levels alongside the majority of his teammates in recent weeks.

However, he still remains an integral part of the current Liverpool squad, and he and the club will have to make a decision regarding his future soon considering his contract expires in 2025.

VIRGIL VAN DIJK CONSIDERING HIS OPTIONS

According to the Mirror, Van Dijk is in no rush to sign a new deal with Liverpool as things stand, and the centre-back is supposedly at a 'crossroads' as he decides whether he wants to continue at Anfield.

He was reportedly 'disappointed' with Klopp's decision to leave Liverpool, but it's said that one of Arne Slot's top priorities when he replaces Klopp this summer will be sorting out Van Dijk's future.

The Feyenoord coach, who is set to join Liverpool for £9.4m, is eager to work with Van Dijk, even if only for another year, but the decision will ultimately be up to the club captain.

Unsurprisingly, there are plenty of sides interested in signing Van Dijk should he leave Liverpool, with clubs in Spain, Italy, the Netherlands and even Turkey eyeing his signature according to the report.

However, Borussia Dortmund are the only named side pursuing the Dutch international, with certain supporters getting carried away with rumours on social media.

A Dortmund fan account on X posted a photo showing that Van Dijk follows five of the Bundesliga side's players on social media, but two of them are his Dutch colleagues and one is Emre Can - his former teammate at Liverpool.

Suggestions that he has already made his mind up over his future are to be ignored, although Liverpool will have to have firm negotiations with the former Southampton man this summer.

Hopefully Slot can help convince his fellow countryman to stick around at Anfield for a little longer as Liverpool can ill-afford to lose his quality and leadership at the back.
