"Very satisfied" - Darwin Nunez on scoring four goals against RB Leipzig
Liverpool's new centre-forward Darwin Nunez has opened up on scoring four goals against RB Leipzig.
The Reds faced the Bundesliga side in a pre-season friendly just over two weeks ago. Liverpool defeated RB Leipzig 5-0.
Nunez was obviously the star of the show. The Uruguay international gave his thoughts on his performance against the German club during a recent interview.
“I enjoyed it hugely because I wasn’t expecting to score four goals,” Nunez told the club’s official website.
“After (Mohamed) Salah gave the penalty to me, that was great on his part, it was a really nice gesture and I dedicated the first goal to him, because he handed the ball to me to take the kick.
“I was feeling confident, so I grabbed it and took the shot. And then came the other three goals that came after, which were a bit of a surprise, given that we were up against a good side in a very difficult game.
“Fortunately, I managed to get the four goals and so I went back to the hotel feeling very satisfied and very happy.
“My teammates were all congratulating me, so at the time you feel really proud and pleased with yourself. As soon as the game finished, the first people that came into my thoughts were my son and my partner.”
Anfield Watch Verdict
We are delighted that Salah allowed Nunez to take the penalty against RB Leipzig. Everything flowed after the striker converted his spot kick.
Nunez also found the back of the net against Manchester City in the Community Shield final last weekend.
Scoring goals in pre-season should give the Uruguay international plenty of confidence heading into the 2022-23 Premier League campaign.
Liverpool will face Fulham at Craven Cottage tomorrow to kickstart their top-flight season. Hopefully Nunez can be the match-winner for the Reds.
But, only time will tell if that is to be the case.
