"Very good" - Jurgen Klopp provides an injury update on Fabinho
Jurgen Klopp has provided an injury update on Fabinho ahead of the Southampton game.
Speaking in his pre-Saints press conference, as cited by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, Klopp said that the Brazilian is doing well but he won't be available for tomorrow's game.
"He is progressing very well but he won't be involved tomorrow. But it's very good."
Anfield Watch Verdict
A lot of people aren't expecting Fabinho to make a full return before the Champions League final. Thankfully, Klopp still seems confident that the Brazilian will be fit enough to face his former club - Real Madrid.
Liverpool picked up more injury worries during the FA Cup final against Chelsea, with Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah both going off.
However, writing for Anfield Watch, David Lynch confirmed that neither player has been sent to undergo a scan on Sunday. That does suggest Van Dijk and Salah did not pick up serious injuries.
Salah also said that he would be fit for the Champions League final against Real Madrid after the FA Cup final win on Saturday.
With all these injuries in mind, it looks like Klopp is going to play a heavily rotated team against Southampton tomorrow.
James Pearce of The Athletic has reported that Joel Matip, Kostas Tsimikas, Joe Gomez, James Milner, Curtis Jones, Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino are all in contention to play against the Saints.
Liverpool's schedule has been absolutely relentless since the turn of the year and it's not surprising that players are now picking up injuries.
By the time the season ends, Klopp's side would've played 63 games, which is the absolute maximum amount of fixtures we could've played this campaign.
With how these games are scheduled too, the Reds have played three games a week for around five months.
More needs to be done surrounding player welfare, but, Klopp and his staff have done amazing to manage the situation as best as they could this season.
