"Uncharacteristically poor" - Liverpool attacker slammed during 2-1 Brighton defeat

Liverpool attacker Mohamed Salah has been criticized for his poor form in recent weeks as he once again looked off-colour in the 2-1 FA Cup fourth-round defeat against Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium. 

Liverpool took the lead through Harvey Elliott, but Lewis Dunk's scrappy goal and a late stunner from the impressive Kaoru Mitoma guided the Seagulls to a deserved 2-1 victory in front of their own fans.

Sky Sports Pundit Laura Hunter was surprised by what Salah did in the first half as he squandered a great chance to put the Reds ahead. He did, however, make amends with a deft assist for Harvey Elliott, but Hunter, who was on commentary for the game at the Amex Stadium, was critical of the opportunity he missed earlier.

“No flag. Salah of old tucks that in the far corner. He’s well-capable. Uncharacteristically poor finish.”

Speaking to ITV, as cited by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, Andy Robertson apologized to the Liverpool faithful for letting them once again.

"Bitterly disappointing. It was a proper cup tie. We were a lot more competitive than 2 weeks ago but that didn't take much. We were slightly better.

"We need to start winning games - it's easy to say and harder to fix. We haven't been anywhere near good enough this season. It's not just one issue - it's a number of things and we need a performance where everything clicks."

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

Mohamed Salah hasn't been anywhere close to his best this season and as Hunter rightly pointed out, he missed a glorious opportunity to put Liverpool ahead in the first half.

However, Salah's form is the least of Liverpool's concerns at the moment as they were once again outrun in midfield, particularly in the second half. The Egyptian still boasts a respectable goal tally, but the Reds need Salah at his absolute best in the coming weeks if they are to save their season.
