"Unbelievable what they’ve done" - Arsene Wenger praises Liverpool's recruitment
Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has praised Jurgen Klopp and his recruitment team.
The Reds have had plenty of success under the German. Liverpool have won the Champions League, Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, Premier League title and League Cup during Klopp's tenure.
A lot of the club's recent success has come down to the fact that the 54-year-old and his recruitment team have signed some top players.
Wenger recently touched on the topic.
“I would give 10/10 to the scouts,” the Frenchman told beIN SPORTS.
“Nothing was wrong there, from (Mohamed) Salah and (Sadio) Mane to (Virgil) Van Dijk. Now (Luis) Diaz – Diaz looks special. Unbelievable what they’ve done.
“The only guy who didn’t integrate as well as we expected from the start on was Thiago (Alcantara), a little bit (Naby) Keita. It took them some time to adjust to the Premier League pace. They’ve done extremely well, Liverpool.”
Anfield Watch Verdict
Wenger is spot on. There is no denying that Liverpool have recruited really well in recent years.
The Reds have also spent very little money since Klopp has arrived. The German's net spend at Liverpool reportedly sits at around £132 million.
Out of all the players that Klopp and his recruitment team have signed at Anfield, Van Dijk has cost the most in terms of a transfer fee (£75 million).
Considering Klopp has been at Liverpool for seven years, him and his team have spent very little money in the transfer market. What they have been able to achieve has been nothing short of superb.
On another note, Klopp is contracted until the summer of 2024. We would be surprised if the 54-year-old extended his contract. Klopp has already been at Liverpool for quite some time.
But, only time will tell if he is to depart Anfield at the conclusion of the 2023-24 campaign.
