Two key Liverpool players return to training as Jurgen Klopp offers injury update

Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Liverpool duo Darwin Nunez and Dominik Szoboszlai have returned to team training ahead of the clash with Nottingham Forest on Saturday, but Mohamed Salah won't be available for the weekend's match. 

The Reds travel to the City Ground as they aim to maintain their status as Premier League table toppers and cap a perfect week for Jurgen Klopp and his side.

Liverpool lifted the Carabao Cup last Sunday and followed it up with an impressive 3-0 win against Southampton in the FA Cup midweek thanks to some inspired performances from the club's academy starlets.

However, Liverpool still have an extensive injury list heading to the Midlands, although Klopp has revealed that the influential Nunez and Szoboszlai have returned to training.

"Darwin and Dom trained yesterday with the team," said the German in his pre-match press conference. "So, they look good, we have to wait [to see] how they react.

"Wataru [Endo] and [Andy] Robertson didn't [train]. But the plan is that they join in today. That's the idea but we have to see if it really works out.

"Ibou [Konate] had nothing, it was just time-sharing. Lucho [Diaz] is fine. [Alexis] Mac Allister is fine. So, they all look fine.

"Macca was ill for one-and-a-half days, I would say, and Robbo had the same thing. Hopefully, that didn't spread now, but so far I didn't hear anything [negative].

"I didn't ask because I don't want to know. So, we will see."

The bad news for Liverpool is that Salah is still not ready to feature for the Reds after suffering a recurrence of his hamstring injury during the 4-1 win against Brentford two weeks ago.

However, Klopp did confirm that he isn't too far away from making a return to action and could be back at some point next week.

"I don't think Mo is too far off but he will not feature tomorrow," Klopp added. "From there we have to go. It's like with the other two 'touch and go'.

"That stays with Mo a bit longer unfortunately. I think next week at any point is possible.

"So he's on the way back definitely but not there yet."

Liverpool's youngsters have proved dependable amid the injury crisis at Anfield, but Klopp will be eager to welcome back as many senior players as possible ahead of a crucial month.

The Reds play Manchester City in the Premier League after the trip to Forest and also have an FA Cup quarter-final away to Manchester United later in the month.
