Two amazing stats show just what great value Mac Allister and Szoboszlai signings represent

There's no doubting the impact of Liverpool's two most high-profile arrivals this summer: Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai.

With Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Fabinho, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade Chamberlain all moving on, the onus has been on the new centre-midfield pairing to step up and make an immediate impact. And they have.

Both have started every Premier League game so far, with Mac Allister playing a number of different roles, including playing at the base of midfield as the Reds struggled to find a dedicated 'number six' after Fabinho's move to Al-Ettihad and Stefan Bajcetic's injury problems.

Szoboszlai, meanwhile, has been given more freedom to attack, and the former Leipzig man bagged his first goal for the Reds just before the international break against Aston Villa.

However, the pair's impact is also reflected in the numbers, too, with two stand-out statistics emerging this week that demonstrate what great value the Reds have been able to get from the market this past window.

Much more durable than their predecessors

In itself, the first stats may not come as a massive surprise: Mac Allister and Szoboszlai are much more durable than Keita and Oxlade Chamberlain.

While this may seem obvious given their horrendous injury records, the fact that the numbers show this so soon is quite incredible.

After just four Premier League games, our new midfield recruits have already played more minutes for the Reds than our outgoing crocks played in the entirety of last season.

Between them, our World Cup-winning Argentinian (312 minutes) and the Hungary captain (360) have played 672 minutes so far this season. That's already 45 minutes more than Keita (292) and Oxlade Chamberlain (335) did during the whole 2022/23 campaign.

With numbers like this, it's unsurprising that the duo were allowed to move on and midfield players that are more frequently available became a priority.

Reds massively underpaid

However, not only are Mac Allister and Szoboszlai more readily available for the Reds, but the recruitment team need to be credited for getting them at bargain prices.

According to a valuation tool powered by Football Observatory, Liverpool acquired their first two summer signings at a significant discount, underpaying by an incredible £42 million.

In the current market conditions, the tool values both players at €80 million (approximately £68.5 million), resulting in a combined valuation of £137 million.

This implies that the £95 million spent on these two players (£35 million to Brighton and £60 million to Leipzig) represents exceptional value for the most significant midfield overhaul in the club's recent history - especially given how they've started their Liverpool careers so far.
