"Trent has taken great heart" - Gareth Southgate's opinion on the parade

England boss Gareth Southgate has given his opinion on Liverpool's trophy parade.

The Reds finished as runners-up for the Premier League title and Champions League last season.

However, Liverpool did win the League Cup and FA Cup. With that being the case, the team paraded the aforementioned trophies around the city of Liverpool last week.

Despite the fact that the team weren't showing off the two biggest trophies in club football, Southgate believes that Alexander-Arnold, who is currently on international duty, took "great heart" from the event.

As quoted by the Liverpool Echo and Anfield Watch on Twitter, he said the following: “I have to say that Trent has taken great heart from the parade. I think that was a significant lift for him and the rest of the team.

"Of course they were disappointed to lose the final but I think the connection they had with the fans that day has definitely been important for him and has allowed the whole team to move on.

"They weren’t sure it was the right thing but now they’ve done it, they absolutely recognise it was, so I think that was a lovely moment for all of them.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

The parade was brilliant. It highlighted that the supporters are 100% behind the players.

Alexander-Arnold is a local lad. So, when Liverpool fall short, he probably feels the pain more than anyone else.

But, we are delighted to hear that the parade cheered him up. Life does go on at the end of the day. The season was still a success for Liverpool despite missing out on the Premier League title and Champions League.

We are confident that Alexander-Arnold will lift another major piece of silverware during his career.

Hopefully the right-back returns to Liverpool an improved player ahead of the 2022-23 campaign.
