Trent Alexander-Arnold sets new Premier League assists record

Trent Alexander-Arnold only played 45 minutes against Burnley but it was enough for him to set a new Premier League record. The Liverpool right-back is on another level.

Trent Alexander-Arnold assisted Liverpool's opener against Burnley on Saturday. His corner was met by Diogo Jota for what is actually just his fourth Premier League assist of the season.

But more importantly, it's Alexander-Arnold's 58th assist in the competition across his career. That's now a new record for assists by a defender, putting him one ahead of Andy Robertson.

Notably, the Liverpool pair are also the only active players in the top 10 - the fact they also occupy 1st and 2nd shows just how revolutionary they've been. There have never been a full-back pair quite like them.

And Liverpool's no.66 could well create an unsurmountable lead. Alexander-Arnold is still just 25 and could feasibly play in the Premier League for another decade. Just how many is he going to have by then?

Of course, we can't be 100% sure that Alexander-Arnold will get all of his assists as a defender and it's worth mentioning that a couple of these have come with him in midfield. There are questions over his future position, certainly.

But it's safe to say that Alexander-Arnold has proven his point as a defender. Now he can start pushing towards the all-time assist records.

He's now 26th on the all-time list, with only six active players ahead of him. Alexander-Arnold should rapidly move up that list and will certainly have his eyes on the top 10 when all is said and done.

Alexander-Arnold is a one-of-a-kind player and someone who will command a starring role for as long as he wants it at Liverpool. The big question, though, is how the new manager will use him.
