Trent Alexander-Arnold is set to return to first-team training ahead of Liverpool's Premier League clash against Watford.

According to The Athletic's Liverpool correspondent James Pearce, Alexander-Arnold will start to be reintegrated into some elements of first-team training this week.

The Scouser has been at the AXA Training Centre during the international break, and he was doing more individual rehab at Kirkby on Wednesday to try and get match fit as soon as possible.

Trent picked up his current injury in between the Arsenal and Nottingham Forest games and it kept him out of England's two friendlies against Switzerland and The Ivory Coast.

Anfield Watch Verdict

In a previous report, James Pearce did state that Trent is unlikely to feature against Watford and Benfica.

The Athletic reporter said that the 23-year-old had some important hurdles to clear to be fit in time to play against Manchester City on April 10th.

In another report by The Athletic, as cited by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, they claimed that Joe Gomez is likely to retain his place until Alexander-Arnold returns from his injury.

It was either James Milner or Gomez who was going to replace Trent for the two games that he's likely to miss out on.

Joe has faced some criticism before whilst playing at right-back but his performance against Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup was very impressive and showed that he can fill in for Trent when needed.

Jurgen Klopp will want to give Trent as much time as possible to recover from his injury, so I doubt he will play against Watford of Benfica even if he is partially fit.

If the 23-year-old has to miss out on those two games to be fit for the Manchester City game, then that's definitely something that most Liverpool fans will be happy with.

We should be able to win both of those games without Trent at right-back, so hopefully, Gomez can step up and show us he still deserves a place in this Liverpool side.
