Liverpool will finalise a new contract for Trent Alexander-Arnold before Christmas, according to one report.

The 24-year-old, who was appointed vice-captain by Jurgen Klopp this summer, last signed an extension back in 2021, with his current deal running until 2025.

According to 90min, Alexander-Arnold and Liverpool are finalising terms for a new long-term contract that includes a bumper pay increase.

The report claims that interest from both Real Madrid and Barcelona will see the Reds up Alexander-Arnold's basic weekly wage to 'around £250k' in line with the highest-paid players in his position globally, while talks are 'progressing well'.

That wage, if accurate, would surely make Alexander-Arnold one of Liverpool's biggest earners overall.

Mohamed Salah is widely reported to be the club's highest-paid star on around £350k a week, having signed an extension until 2025 last year.

Behind the Egyptian in terms of salary earnings, captain Virgil van Dijk's salary is thought to be well north of £200k a week, while Alisson was recently reported to have had a pay rise that put him into Liverpool's top three earners.

Another of Liverpool highest-paid players, Thiago Alcantara is supposedly to be on around £200k a week in terms of basic pre-tax weekly wage, though all reported figures relating to players' salaries should be taken with a pinch of salt.

It is added by 90min's report that the new contract for Alexander-Arnold will be finalised 'well before Christmas', with fellow full back Kostas Tsimikas also in line for an extension.

Liverpool's number 66 missed the weekend's 3-1 win over Wolves with a hamstring injury, but is expected to return for the Reds' next Premier League clash with West Ham on Sunday.

Since making his debut back in 2016, Alexander-Arnold has gone on to appear in 277 first-team matches for the Reds, scoring 16 times and registering 72 assists.
