Simply assign Liverpool to heads and Real Madrid to tails.

Though, it seems that the right-back is leaning one way. Marca now reports that Alexander-Arnold has informed Liverpool that he wants to move to Madrid and while the Liverpool Echo deny that claim, it's hard not to feel the fire through all the smoke.

Alexander-Arnold would have a new contract with Liverpool if he were eager to stay. The fact he doesn't have that new contract suggests the eagerness simply isn't there - and it feels more and more likely that he'll depart.

After all, the Scouser can formally enter talks with non-English clubs starting Wednesday.

So why would he leave Liverpool for Real Madrid? Well, he's saying all the things players usually say before making that move.

"Of course, winning more trophies. But on a personal level it is building a legacy. That is something that is important," he said in an interview with Men in Blazers this week.

"Being spoken about in the highest regard, especially after you've finished. So I think in 10, 15 years if I'm spoken about as one of the best right-backs, or the best right-back, that's what I'm playing for now, I think, and I'm using it for motivation."

The big Real Madrid lie

This isn't the first time Alexander-Arnold has talked about legacy. He was dropping in the Ballon d'Or shouts earlier in the season and again, it's all very 'I want to move to Real Madrid'.

That's where you go to win the biggest awards and create the biggest legacy. At least, that's the general feeling. This is the stuff Madrid tell players they want to sign - nothing turns your head quite like Los Blancos and their guarantees of grandeur.

Only, it's not true. The idea that moving to Real Madrid brings you a bigger legacy is nonsense and only a select few see the promises come to fruition.

He can even look at Jude Bellingham for that. Bellingham has been sensational since moving to Spain of course, but his entire Ballon d'Or campaign was abandoned in favour of Vinicius Jr. The arrival of Kylian Mbappe sees him fall even further down the list of players Real Madrid want to back for the Ballon d'Or.

Alexander-Arnold would be below the lot of them.

Then there's the fact that Real Madrid's golden era looks to be coming to an end. They're simply not very good this season and look far more like the post-Galacticos era of the mid to late-2000s than a team pushing to be the world's best.

No players of that previous era was a Ballon d'Or contender. Alexander-Arnold risks being more Robben than Ronaldo by moving there.

And while all of this might sound pessimistic, there's talk that the right-back simply isn't seen as a must-sign star. Relovo understand that Real Madrid wouldn't sign Alexander-Arnold if he'd actually cost a transfer fee - this is a signing of opportunity rather than one of any strong desire.

So while Liverpool appear to be building a generational team, Alexander-Arnold is reportedly prepared to jump ship for a golden guarantee that simply isn't there. He's being sold a vision he'll never actually see.
