Liverpool FC news: Trent Alexander-Arnold outlines timeline for injury return

Trent Alexander-Arnold has provided an encouraging update on his recovery from injury ahead of Liverpool's clash with Brighton.

The defender has been out of action for the Reds since aggravating a knee injury in February's win over Burnley - an issue first picked up in the side's FA Cup third round clash with Arsenal in January.

Alexander-Arnold now says he is closing in on a return to the field as Liverpool enter a hectic season run-in, chasing Premier League and Europa League gold.

Proving an update on his rehabilitation, Alexander-Arnold said told Sky Sports: "It's going well now, finally in the final stages and just excited to get back out there.

"It's hard watching and not being apart of it, it's one of the longest ones [injuries] of my career so far, it gives you that hunger to get back out there and perform.

"I think a couple of weeks, if everything keeps going well and there's no setbacks. Got to keep working hard, I'm not going to get back into the team - it's not what I'm expecting - but it's exciting. I want to get out there, help the lads and be in a title race."

Liverpool are preparing to take on Brighton on Sunday afternoon, a side they have run into quite a lot of trouble against in recent times.

Speaking on Sky Sports' coverage ahead of the game, Alexander-Arnold reflected on what has made the Seagulls such a tricky opponent for the Reds, who are winless in their last four against the south coast outfit.

The 25-year-old added: "I think they buy into the gameplan, they know what they're doing - they're well-drilled and execute it. They're confident in what they do, they don't care where they are or who they're playing against, they'll play the way they're told to play.

"They like to play out from the back, take risks and when it comes off, as a player playing against them it's incredibly tough. I said last year, they're probably the toughest we found, they're incredibly difficult to press, pick them apart and outnumber you in the middle. This season, it's a little bit different but it's going to be incredibly difficult."
