Liverpool Transfer News: Trent Alexander-Arnold DODGES question over new contract

Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold has managed to avoid being dragged into a conversation regarding his long-term future.

The England international, like teammates Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, has entered the final year of his contract with the Merseyside giants, meaning there is the very real prospect of him leaving on a free transfer next summer.

In fact, amid constant links to Real Madrid, Alexander-Arnold would be able to speak with the La Liga outfit - and other teams outside of England for that matter - with regard to a pre-contract agreement if he hasn't signed a new deal with Liverpool by January 1, 2025.

One of the best full-backs in Europe, it's no surprise the 25-year-old appears to be on the radar of Los Blancos. However, his importance to the Reds was highlighted during the 2-0 win over Ipswich Town on Saturday as despite not registering a goal contribution, he pulled the strings - especially in the second half.

Alexander-Arnold dodges Liverpool contract question

For many, if not all, Liverpool supporters, the prospect of losing all three players - particularly Alexander-Arnold who is approaching his prime years - would be a disaster, so unsurprisingly they are hoping for some positive news regarding a contract renewal.

However, that hasn't been forthcoming as of yet with the defender opting to keep his cards close to his chest following the Reds' Premier League opener at Portman Road.

As per the Liverpool Echo, a handful of reporters who had stuck around tried to grab a word with Liverpool's vice-captain, who was flanked by a number of the club's security detail as he emerged last from the dressing room and made his way towards the team bus.

Asked if he had a couple of minutes to spare to give the journalists his thoughts on his side's 2-0 win over the Premier League newboys, with a wide grin and knowing expression on his face, Alexander-Arnold politely laughed off the requests and said: "I don't know what you'd possibly want to speak to me about!"

Clearly the response of someone who is well aware of the speculation surrounding his future. But for now it would appear the right-back won't be drawn into discussions about his plans.
