Pundit Alan Shearer has singled out one Liverpool player for praise following their 2-0 win over Ipswich Town.

Thanks to a much improved second half display, the Reds left Portman Road with all three points thanks to goals from Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah - who set a new Premier League record in the process.

A comfortable victory in the end for the Merseyside giants as the Arne Slot era got off to the perfect start but Shearer has picked out the precise moment that got the ball rolling and that was Trent Alexander-Arnold's pre-assist for the opening goal of the game.

"When Trent gets his ball here, I mean, the pass is just incredible," Shearer said on Match of the Day. "How you want it, where you want it? Thank you very much.

"In behind, running towards the Ipswich goal, and, as I said, good players are going to finish you off."

Alexander-Arnold's game by numbers

It's worth mentioning that this was just Alexander-Arnold's second outing in Liverpool colours since returning late to pre-season as a result of being part of the England squad that reached the final of Euro 2024 earlier in the summer.

Unlike with the Three Lions, the 25-year-old operated in his usual right-back role against Ipswich and was impressive throughout his 77 minutes on the pitch.

As per SofaScore, Alexander-Arnold had 61 touches of the ball, completed 70% of his passes, won all but one of his ground duels, drew two fouls and had one shot off target.

With four key passes to his name, the full-back created two big chances and can count himself rather unlucky to have not claimed an assist as Jota and Luis Diaz both spurned huge opportunities to give Liverpool a far greater margin of victory.
