Trent Alexander-Arnold should fancy his chances tonight as Liverpool host Bayer Leverkusen in the UEFA Champions League. The data proves it.

Liverpool take on Bayer Leverkusen tonight in a massive UEFA Champions League clash. It's Arne Slot vs Xabi Alonso, for one - two men linked with the job at Anfield this year.

Slot got the gig, with Alonso opting to remain with Leverkusen for another year. Now we get to see who's working more magic.

But while the managers are key here, it's the players who ultimately decide it and any stars who can get an advantage may prove decisive. And we think Trent Alexander-Arnold may have such an advantage.

The Scouser could feast against the Bundesliga champions - if the data holds up.

Leverkusen's weakness is Trent's strength

Leverkusen have not been the team this season that they were last time out. Part of that could well be down to their overall fitness levels after the mammoth task of going undefeated last time out.

One way they've certainly slipped is defensively, with their first Bundesliga clean sheet only coming this weekend. They're just not as solid as they were.

That can be seen with Alex Grimaldo, their left wingback. The Spaniard was fantastic last season but is struggling to have an impact off the ball this season.

Particularly, players are having a lot of joy running at him. That will be Alexander-Arnold's job, mainly, with Mo Salah looking to operate behind Grimaldo.

And Alexander-Arnold will like what he sees. Grimaldo is winning just 31% of his tackles against dribbling players this season, well down on the 54% he achieved in 2023/24.

It's one of the worst percentages in the Bundesliga - no player with as many minutes as Grimaldo has a lower percentage. He's also been at error for two goals, a figure only three players in the entire German top flight can 'beat'.

If Alexander-Arnold can get at Grimaldo, he should have a lot of joy. It could lead to the Scouser having a big impact on the game - and potentially looking like his creative best again.
