Trent Alexander-Arnold in a race against time to be fit for Manchester City game
Trent Alexander-Arnold is in a race against time to be fit for the most important fixture of Liverpool's season.
Liverpool's Scouse right-back picked up an injury before the Reds' game against Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup quarter-finals that kept him out of international duty with England.
According to The Athletic's Liverpool correspondent James Pearce, as cited by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, Alexander-Arnold could be fit for Liverpool's game against Manchester City, which is set to take place on Sunday 10th of April.
However, Pearce does say that Trent has some important 'hurdles' to clear before the Liverpool medical staff give him the green light to play against City.
Anfield Watch Verdict
This report has given us some early team news for the Watford game this Saturday and also the second leg of the Champions League quarter-finals against Benfica.
With Trent still a doubt for the City game then he definitely will not be ready for those two fixtures which take place within the next seven days.
Looking at who can replace the Scouser at right-back, the Reds have some decent options but no one will be able to offer what Trent offers.
James Milner and Joe Gomez are usually Jurgen Klopp's go-to when Trent isn't available or he needs a rest.
Gomez recently played right-back against Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup and he didn't look out of place at all.
The Englishman doesn't offer what Trent offers but it means Liverpool are a bit more solid defensively since Joe is a natural centre-back.
Milner also has a lot of experience playing at full-back and we know that Klopp trusts the veteran midfielder to play anywhere on the pitch.
Luckily Liverpool should be beating Watford and Benfica without Trent so his absence shouldn't be too big of a miss.
If I had to put money on who I think will replace Trent for both games, I'd say Gomez plays against Watford and Milner plays against Benfica.
