Trent Alexander-Arnold hailed as 'best midfielder in Britain' by former Red
Trent Alexander-Arnold's gradual transition from defence to midfield has gained him another admirer in former Liverpool striker Dean Saunders.
Alexander-Arnold has long been touted for a permanent move up the pitch, leaving his full-back duties behind him to pull the strings in the heart of Liverpool's team.
Almost every time he's been allowed to roam in midfield, he's wowed fans - whether that be for Jurgen Klopp's side or Gareth Southgate's England, where he's played a couple of games as an out-and-out box-to-box.
He's currently operating in more of an inverted full-back role for Liverpool, drifting into the middle of the park to dictate play before resuming his defensive position on the right when the Reds go on the back-foot.
In that role, he's found much success this season, scoring two goals and providing nine assists across all competitions on top of improved defensive work.
However, Saunders, who made 42 appearances for the Reds in the early 1990s, believes the Englishman is better equipped for a permanent role in midfield, hailing him as the best in the country in that position.
Speaking to Instant Casino, Saunders said: "I do think that Trent Alexander-Arnold is the best midfielder in Britain.
"He can do everything that Declan Rice and Kalvin Phillips can do in terms of defensive actions and his range of passing is better than anyone.
"I think Jude Bellingham has been a surprise at Real Madrid and I didn't think he'd set the world alight this quickly, but I'd still say that Trent is the best midfielder who is currently at a British club.
"I'd play him in midfield and pay £50million for a new right-back. I think Trent is wasted there.
"Alexander-Arnold is not the best defender, but I'd love to play with him in midfield."
