Trent Alexander-Arnold explains celebration after late equaliser against Manchester City
Trent Alexander-Arnold has revealed why he did his 'shushing' celebration in front of the Manchester City fans in Liverpool's 1-1 draw against the league leaders at the Etihad Stadium.
The Liverpool right-back restored parity on the night with a brilliant strike from the edge of the area and reeled away to the Manchester City fans to celebrate the crucial equalizer. Speaking after the game, Alexander-Arnold explained his actions, admitting that he quite enjoys celebrating in front of the away fans.
He said (quotes via Liverpool.com): "It’s always good to celebrate in front of the home fans as the away team. It’s always funny, but it was about getting the job over the line and getting that point.
Despite coming away with just a point, the 24-year-old believes Liverpool's draw at the Etihad Stadium could act as a springboard to the Reds' title challenge as they continue to trail Pep Guardiola's side by just one point in the Premier League standings.
He added: "For sure [it’ll boost us]. We’ve played a lot better against Man City here before and lost so it’s a good result for us. It’s something we needed as a team and it’ll instill that belief in us that we can go up against a team that won the treble last year, that are top of the league. It shows we’re doing something right."
"I just don’t think we played particularly well to be honest, especially in the first half. Their formation and set-up really challenged us and they had a lot of bodies in there which was difficult to deal with but we regrouped at half-time, came back out with more of a game plan and pressed them.
"It’s always difficult, just subconsciously, to play against Man City because you always have a lot of respect for them but in the second half, we put that respect to the side and came to get a result."
Alexander-Arnold could've done better for Erling Haaland's opening goal, but he did a good job of keeping the electric Jeremy Doku at bay for large parts of the game and scored a fantastic goal to draw his side level on the night.
