Trent Alexander-Arnold is getting closer to completing a €140m deal according to French newspaper L’Equipe.

He is now looking to get involved in club ownership, alongside his family, with Ligue 1 side FC Nantes the target according to the report by L’Equipe on Friday.

Trent's ownership bid

After initially looking into a buyout at AS Saint-Etienne, Trent and his family turned their attention to FC Nantes. The outlet understands that Michael Arnold, Trent’s father, who acts as the manager of his son’s interests through a London-based investment firm, has an interest in the French sports market.

This comes after Kylian Mbappe and his family became shareholders in Ligue 2 side SM Caen over the summer. Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG) also tried to purchase Girondins de Bordeaux, but they later pulled out due to the uncertain finances of French football, with Bordeaux now in the 4th division.

Nantes are owned by Waldemar Kita, with tension increasingly high between him and the fans. Kita held a video conference with the English group, and also had a meeting with their legal representative. A verbal offer worth €80m upfront, €20m later, and a potential further €40m in bonuses was proposed.

Kita also accepted an external audit of the club in another meeting, however is now denying this, and has at no point given any indication that he would accept the money proposed.

The French newspaper added that Nantes’ owner is ‘furious’ about this being leaked to the media, and has called the whole thing to a close.

Additionally, The Athletic's Liverpool reporter James Pearce claims the report is wide of the mark.

Trent has been impressive so far this season, however Liverpool fans are starting to get nervous as his contract gets closer to expiring. The scouser, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk all have their contracts ending this summer. All three are yet to renew.
