"Top talent" - Paul Merson on the arrival of Fabio Carvalho
Pundit Paul Merson has given his verdict on Liverpool attacking midfielder Fabio Carvalho.
The Reds signed the 19-year-old from Fulham for a transfer fee of £5.31 million back in May.
Merson believes that Carvalho won't be a regular starter for Liverpool next season. However, the former Arsenal man has acknowledged that the youngster is a fine talent.
Speaking to Sports Keeda, Merson said: “Fabio Carvalho is not someone who will start from week one for Liverpool, but this guy is a top talent and played a big role in Fulham’s promotion bid last season.
"I think this is the kind of signing other managers might look at and think, ‘Why didn’t we get him?’ because he’s a fantastic talent.”
Anfield Watch Verdict
Carvalho is only going to improve during his time at Anfield. The reality is, the 19-year-old will be playing and training alongside some top players.
Footballers tend to improve when surrounded by better players. That is not a dig at Carvalho's former club Fulham. The London-based club were promoted to the Premier League last season.
But, Fulham are still miles off Liverpool in terms of quality. Also, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has a track record of improving footballers.
Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino has admitted that he is one of those players the German has improved.
“I think I improved a lot in every way: physically, tactically, mentally, I learned a bit of every aspect," he said, as quoted by Planet Football.
“I am never tired of praising Klopp. He has so many good things on and off the pitch. He really helps us on a daily basis, we learn so much from him in every way.”
Only time will tell if Carvalho is to take to Liverpool.
