Thomas Frank makes bold claim about Mo Salah after Brentford win
Brentford boss Thomas Frank has made a bold claim about Mohamed Salah following Liverpool's 3-0 win over the Bees on Sunday afternoon.
The Reds moved up to second in the Premier League table after a strong performance at Anfield, albeit there were some nervous moments with Brentford also showing their quality going forward.
In the end, it was a relatively comfortable win for Liverpool, largely thanks to Salah's brace that gave Jurgen Klopp's side a two-goal cushion, with Diogo Jota adding a third to wrap up the points.
Salah's opener in the first half was wonderfully taken, the Egyptian curling home from inside the area after an incisive pass from Darwin Nunez. The winger then grabbed his 200th goal in English football with just under half-an-hour remaining, calmly heading home Kostas Tsimikas' far-post cross.
It was a characteristically clinical performance from the 31-year-old, taking his tally to 12 goals for the season, and Frank was not shy in heaping praise on him after the final whistle, even suggesting that Salah was the best around in the English top flight.
Speaking in his post-match press conference, the Brentford boss said: "I think off the top of my head he is potentially the best player in the Premier League.
"In terms of goals and assists, what a level. Must be one of the best offensive players in the world – like not top 10, top three, sitting here on the spot."
The Dane added: "When you have a player of that quality, you just know there is a problem.
“The second one he can’t avoid to score, but the first one is pure signature Liverpool attack. We lose it, counter-attack, bang, into Salah, goal. But not every player can score from that situation, that just shows his qualities."
Other than Manchester City's Erling Haaland, Frank is right that there is no Premier League player capable of producing such sensational goalscoring numbers on a consistent basis.
Salah has now scored seven in his last five games and was named the Premier League's Player of the Month for October.
If the Egyptian can continue his fine form after the international break, he could add a sixth Premier League Player of the Month award to his collection.
