“This is not a battle for the title" - Gabby Agbonlahor on Liverpool's title chances

Pundit Gabby Agbonlahor believes that Liverpool are not in the Premier League title race this season.

After six games, the Reds are six points behind league leaders Arsenal.

With that being the case, Agbonlahor does not see Liverpool lifting the title come May.

As quoted by Anfield Watch on Twitter, he told talkSPORT the following: “This is not a battle for the title. Liverpool, for me, are not fighting for the Premier League title this season. They are fighting to stay in the top four because Arsenal are on it. Spurs are on it.

“They know how to win games. They have that winning mentality. There is something missing in that side. That is the sort of game (Merseyside derby) where you would rely on (Sadio) Mane to come up with some sort of brilliance and make a goal.

“(Mohamed) Salah doesn’t look like he’s going to score and that is not like Mo Salah. He has to come out wide and find space. The midfield didn’t work. They played Fabinho as a sitter and in front of him (Harvey) Elliott and (Fabio) Carvalho. It just didn’t work for me today.

“At the back, (Andy) Robertson was dropped, Trent (Alexander-Arnold) got taken off after 60 minutes. Something isn’t right with that defence with Liverpool and they are dropping too many points.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

Unfortunately, we agree with Agbonlahor. Liverpool have looked well off the pace this season.

The team appears to be lacking confidence and energy. Reds boss Jurgen Klopp needs to get his team back on track.

But, from what we have seen in the opening six matches of the top-flight campaign, it's going to be a long season for Liverpool.

Opposition teams don't appear to be scared of the Reds anymore, which is concerning. Liverpool's next Premier League clash is against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield on Saturday.

Hopefully the Reds play with plenty of intensity against Wolves. Something ultimately needs to change, otherwise the campaign will be gone in a heartbeat.
