“They are going to lose goals in Mane" - Pundit on the winger's imminent departure
Former Premier League striker Kevin Campbell has given his verdict on Sadio Mane's imminent departure.
The Liverpool winger is reportedly set to join Bayern Munich this summer.
The Reds have signed a replacement for Mane. Darwin Nunez has joined Liverpool from Benfica for €100 million.
Therefore, Campbell has implied that there is a fair bit of pressure on the Uruguay international.
“They are going to lose goals in Mane. He needs to be replaced and Nunez has a knack of being able to score,” he told Football Insider.
“It has been a while since there’s been a real number nine at Anfield. Klopp will have to tweak the system a little bit but given the amount of chances they create I’m sure he will score goals.
“For £140,000-a-week, it is cheap money. It gives scope. Nunez is still young. If he does well he will earn a better contract. That’s the good thing for him.”
Anfied Watch Verdict
We can see where Campbell is coming from. The reality is, Mane found the back of the net on 23 occasions last season.
Therefore, hopefully Nunez hits the ground running. Liverpool competed for the quadruple last season.
If the Reds are to go again, they will need everyone fit and firing. We do understand that it might take Nunez a couple of months to adjust to a new environment/league.
With that being the case, we do hope the Anfield faithful get right behind the striker. But, we are confident that the fans will support him.
Liverpool supporters are brilliant at getting behind the players. On another note, we can't wait for next season. There has never been a better time to be a Red.
