"There’s lots of competition" - Pundit thinks Liverpool don't need to sign a midfielder

Danny Murphy believes that Liverpool don't need to sign a midfielder this summer.

With it being heavily reported that the Reds have completed their summer transfer business, a lot of supporters are worried that Liverpool lack a world-class right-sided midfielder.

However, former Liverpool player Murphy thinks that the Reds have enough quality in that position already.

"They don’t need to prioritise. I think you’re talking about looking ahead here for the future of the club because at the moment, when you look at that area of the pitch, they’ve still got (Jordan) Henderson who looks as fit as a fiddle," he told BeMyBet.

"Fabinho is one of the best in that position, Thiago (Alcantara) is coming into his own, (Naby) Keita’s still there doing a job, (James) Milner signed another year and you’ve got Curtis Jones who I expect more from this season.

"Harvey Elliott after the injury should come back fit and flying. There’s lots of competition in there."

Anfield Watch Verdict

I'm going to have to disagree with Murphy here. Yes, Liverpool have a lot of depth in central-midfield, but that doesn't always equate to quality.

Henderson has been declining right in front of our eyes during the last couple of years and it's clear to see he needs replacing as soon as possible.

Milner's contract extension could've easily not have been given to him and I think he's signed it because Jurgen Klopp wants someone with experience in the dressing room for the younger generation.

Naby Keita has been here for four seasons now and we're still waiting to see his best.

Jones and Elliott are both so young and putting pressure on them to be the world-class midfielder we need just seems irresponsible.

Thiago and Fabinho are by far our two best midfielders and if we're going to play three in the middle of the park next next season, then we need to be looking at signing a right-sided player who is world-class, like them.

I doubt we'll dabble in the market again this summer, but if the right player comes along, who knows.
