"The writing’s on the wall" - Pundit believes Liverpool defender will leave Anfield

Noel Whelan believes that Fulham are going to make a move for Liverpool full-back Neco Williams this summer transfer window after he helped them gain promotion to the Premier League.

With Williams having an impressive loan spell with Fuham in the Championship last season, clubs are said to be interested in the Welsh international.

However, former Leeds United player Whelan thinks that there is one club in particular that will complete the signing of the 21-year-old this summer.

“The writing’s on the wall," he told Football Insider. "If Fulham can do a deal to get him back into the club, whether that be on loan, or permanent.

“He had a successful season there, he seemed to be settled, the manager seemed to enjoy his style of play.

“I think it makes sense because you’ve brought in the new player from Aberdeen (Calvin Ramsay). You’ve sometimes got to let players forge their career.

“Right now, Neco Williams in the Premier League after a successful season at Fulham, getting promoted that makes sense as well.

“I very much doubt Fulham would want to let a bright full-back, box-to-box player leave the club after impressing the manager and the fans.

“I’m sure that’s one they are trying to work on now Liverpool have got the player through the door. That makes it a little bit easier to get a deal done with Fulham.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

According to MailSport, as cited by Anfield Watch, the Welsh right-back has attracted interest from four clubs. Nottingham Forest, Fulham, Southampton and PSV Eindhoven.

The Reds are reportedly asking for £15 million for Williams.

He is a Wales international and Premier League winner. But, Williams has three seasons left on his contract at Anfield.

A transfer fee of £15 million is the minimum we should be asking for in my opinion. For a player of Williams' quality/age, we could easily be getting £20 million-plus for him this summer.
