Liverpool forward Diogo Jota has praised the Reds for their display against Ajax at Anfield last night.

Jurgen Klopp's team secured a 2-1 victory over the Dutch side to kickstart their Champions League group stage campaign.

Post-game, Jota had plenty of good things to say about his teammates.

As quoted by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, he told The Athletic the following: “We had a shaky beginning to the season. There were a lot of enforced changes due to the injuries. But the way we played tonight is the way to move forward. It felt like justice was done with that late goal.

“Darwin (Nunez) didn’t play too many games yet with the sending off he got. In contrast Sadio (Mane) played for this team for a long period and was used to everything. It’s quite a big change but if we keep playing like this then it will be easier for Darwin and for everyone.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

Jota is spot on. Liverpool were terrific against Ajax. Jota missed the early stages of the season due to a hamstring injury.

With that being the case, it was good to see the forward back in the starting lineup. Jota didn't score, but he was lively.

The Portugal international registered a WhoScored player rating of 7.87 for his performance against Ajax, which highlights that he did play well against the Dutch side.

Hopefully Jota can stay fit for the remainder of the season and propel Liverpool towards a trophy. He is certainly capable of doing so.

Jota has scored 34 goals and registered 10 assists in 88 appearances for Liverpool's first-team.
