Former Aberdeen player Brian Irvine claims that Calvin Ramsay will improve a lot if he moves to Liverpool because of the players he'll be around.

It has been reported that the 18-year-old full-back is set to join the Reds.

Therefore, Irvine told Press and Journal that a move to Liverpool is a huge opportunity for Ramsay.

“It’s an amazing opportunity for the player and he will develop further. The sky’s the limit for the lad," he said.

“Ramsay is a very good attacking player and with experience and age he will become an even better player.

“The attacking qualities he has is clearly what has attracted Liverpool in much the same way as those qualities led to Andy Robertson moving there.

“He has so much going for him just now and it is the huge potential he has which has Liverpool interested in him in the first place.”

Irvine added: “If Ramsay does end up there he’ll improve again simply due to the calibre of his surroundings whether he makes it to the first team or not.

“He will have looked at (Andy) Robertson (fellow full-back) going from starting his career at Queen’s Park to winning trophies with Liverpool and thought there is nothing stopping him from doing the same.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

Ramsay looks set to join Liverpool within the coming weeks.

The Times' Paul Joyce, as cited by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, recently confirmed that Liverpool will look to tie up the transfer of Aberdeen's right-back this week. The deal will be worth around £4 million.

The 18-year-old has informed the Scottish club he wants to move to Anfield.

It is understood that Ramsay will be Trent Alexander-Arnold's understudy when he joins Jurgen Klopp's side.

After the Reds signed Kostas Tsimikas, who has impressed massively as Robertson's back-up, it was clear we needed a back-up for Alexander-Arnold, who plays pretty much every game at the moment.

Hopefully Ramsay can impress the Anfield faithful as much as Tsimikas has.
