"The perfect signing at the perfect time" - Dirk Kuyt on current Red

Former Liverpool forward Dirk Kuyt has recently praised Reds striker Diogo Jota.

The club signed the Portugal international from Wolverhampton Wanderers for a transfer fee of €44.70 million back in the summer of 2020.

Since then, Jota has scored 27 goals and registered three assists in 58 appearances.

With that being the case, Kuyt said that the 25-year-old has proven to be the perfect signing for the club.

“Jota was the perfect signing at the perfect time,” Kuyt wrote in his column for Liverpool’s official website.

“Hasn’t Diogo Jota stepped up well in Salah and Mane’s absence?

“His goals at Arsenal, of course, secured Liverpool’s spot at Wembley, and it was hugely encouraging to see him as such a goal threat even when playing out wide.

“Jota probably prefers and has better opportunities to score when he’s playing in the centre of the front line. But players up front these days can play in every position and still be effective in the penalty area.

“That said, it can be difficult to be shifted out wide when you’re a striker by nature. Obviously everyone knows I arrived at Liverpool as a centre-forward and was used there by Rafa Benitez during my first season.

“I was the club’s top scorer in the Premier League in 2006-07 but was then put out on the right for the following campaign. You’ve got to change your mindset because the team asks something different from you."

Anfield Watch Verdict

We absolutely love watching Jota represent Liverpool. The man is a very good footballer. Jota possesses end product and he can play anywhere across the front line.

The Portugal international also plays with passion, which we absolutely love.

Jota's contract does not expire until June 2025. Therefore, the Anfield faithful will be able to sit back and watch the forward for at least a few more years.

But, we would love to see Jota end his career with Liverpool. The 25-year-old is entering his prime years as a footballer, so we don't want to see him leave the club anytime soon.
