"The League Cup might only be the fourth priority" - John Aldridge on trophies

Former Red John Aldridge believes Liverpool's League Cup win just over a week ago was a big moment for the club.

The Reds defeated Chelsea 11-10 on penalties at Wembley Stadium to claim the trophy. Prior to the match, Liverpool had not won the League Cup since 2012.

There is no denying that the aforementioned tournament is the least important in English football, but Aldridge has claimed that it was important for Reds skipper Jordan Henderson to lift the trophy last month.

As quoted by Anfield Edition's Twitter account, the 63-year-old told Sunday World the following: "The League Cup might only be the fourth priority for a club like Liverpool at the start of a season, but try telling the fans who saw the latest trophy lift from Jordan Henderson that it wasn’t important."

Anfield Watch Verdict

We completely agree with Aldridge. The League Cup is still a major piece of silverware, so it was a special moment to see Henderson lift the trophy.

You could see what winning the trophy meant to all the players. In fact, Henderson summed it up perfectly post-match.

The 31-year-old told the club's official website the following: "It’s very special to win trophies for this football club, no matter what the competition.

"It was a great opportunity for us and thankfully we’re on the right side of it. It’s always difficult when it goes to penalties, it’s never nice, but I thought the lads overall deserved to win."

Also, winning trophies breeds confidence within a team. Liverpool could still win the Champions League, Premier League and FA Cup this season.

Therefore, it will be interesting to see if the Reds can add another trophy to their collection in the next few months. We look forward to watching the final part of the season.
