The key talking points from Liverpool's 2-0 victory over Brighton

Liverpool defeated Brighton and Hove Albion 2-0 at the Amex Stadium last Saturday (Premier League).

Luis Diaz gave the Reds the lead after 19 minutes of action. Mohamed Salah then secured the three points for Liverpool from the penalty spot late on in the match.

Below are the key talking points from the top-flight clash.

Diaz is a brave man

Diaz is a technically gifted footballer. But, it turns out that he is also willing to put his body on the line.

Without a bit of courage, Diaz would not have scored against Brighton.

Liverpool centre-back Joel Matip played a ball in behind the Seagulls' defence. The Colombia international scored as a result of the defender's pass.

However, Diaz was not finding the back of the net without being cleaned up by Brighton goalkeeper Robert Sanchez.

With that being the case, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was full of praise for the winger after the match.

“He did what a striker had to do. I didn’t see it back but it was spectacular enough in the first moment," said the German, as quoted by Yahoo.

“To get in there with his head it was really brave. A great goal."

Diaz is clearly prepared to do whatever it takes for his side to win.

Mohamed Salah's good form continued

Even when Salah is not at his best, he does tend to find the back of the net.

The Egyptian international scored his 28th goal for the season (all competitions) against Brighton.

Salah is simply a machine in front of goal. Long may it continue.

Jurgen Klopp pleased with the result

Klopp was not thrilled with Liverpool's performance against Brighton. But, he was happy to see his side claim the three points.

Klopp told the club's official website the following post-match: "Difficult game, good opponent, we needed a few minutes to find into the game. From the moment on when we found ourselves into the game, we controlled it in a really good way.

"I don't think you can deny Brighton constantly or completely because of the quality they have, but we did quite well and scored a wonderful goal in a really good situation.

"We could have scored more, won good balls, real chances from open-play situations or counter-attacking moments, or both. I liked that a lot and I don't expect us to be two or three-nil up or whatever at Brighton."

No Premier League fixture is easy, so we can see where Klopp is coming from.

Manchester City should be worried

Liverpool's victory over Brighton has proven to be massive.

League leaders Manchester City dropped points against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park two days later. The Premier League fixture ended in a 0-0 draw.

With that being the case, the Reds are only four points behind the Citizens with a game in hand.

Liverpool have won their past eight Premier League fixtures. It is fair to say that the Reds are humming. If Manchester City aren't careful, Liverpool could overtake them in the coming weeks.

But, the Reds will have to keep up their good form if they are to claim the title this season.

Arsenal up next for Liverpool

Liverpool will face Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night. It is a huge Premier League clash for the Reds simply because of how tight things are at the top of the table.

But, the Reds should be confident that they can get the job done against the Gunners. Liverpool defeated Arsenal 2-0 (League Cup, semi-final, second leg) in North London back in January.

Therefore, confidence should be sky high in Klopp's squad ahead of Wednesday night.
