The key talking points from Liverpool's 2-0 victory over Arsenal

Last night, Liverpool defeated Arsenal 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium to move within one-point of Premier League leaders Manchester City.

Diogo Jota opened the scoring for the Reds after 54 minutes of action. Roberto Firmino then doubled Liverpool's lead eight minutes later.

Jota simply loves playing against Arsenal

Before yesterday, Jota had found the back of the net six times in six Liverpool games against Arsenal in all competitions.

As we have already pointed out, the Portugal international continued his good form in front of goal against the Gunners last night.

Jota has now scored 31 goals and registered four assists in 68 appearances for Liverpool's first-team. He certainly has been a fine signing.

Roberto Firmino showed his worth

Firmino may not be a regular (only 13 starts this season) in Jurgen Klopp's starting XI anymore. However, he is a very handy footballer to have on the bench.

Last night, the Brazil international came on for Jota after 56 minutes of action and scored shortly after. Firmino's goal ultimately put the game to bed.

Klopp had the following to say about the 30-year-old's strike.

"Absolutely. Top goal. Top, top, top goal," the German told LiverpoolFC.com.

"He (Andy Robertson) got the ball, stepped in the box and then was waiting for the movement in the box.

"Then he found (Bobby). I think there were two or three players in a proper position, but Bobby got the goal."

Being able to bench Firmino and start Sadio Mane, Luis Diaz and Jota highlights that Liverpool possess a bit of depth in attack.

Alisson saved Liverpool big time

When the game was level at 0-0 during the early stages of the second half, Thiago Alcantara played a shocking back pass, which ultimately gave Martin Odegaard the opportunity to score for Arsenal.

However, Alisson stood up and made a huge save for Liverpool. The Brazil international also registered a WhoScored player rating of 7.37 for his 90-minute performance against the Gunners.

The aforementioned figure highlights that Alisson was close to his best last night.

The game could have played out very differently had Odegaard found the back of the net.

Klopp is staying focused

Liverpool have won their past nine Premier League fixtures, which is why they are in contention to claim the Premier League title.

However, Klopp is not getting carried away.

The German told the club's official website the following: "Yes, of course it gives momentum but momentum is the most fragile flower on the planet: somebody just walks past you and steps on it and done and then you work again for I don’t know how long to get momentum back.

"So, I’m not a big friend of momentum, it’s just get through it really and find the way in the game to get through it and then let’s see where we end up. It’s a tough one."

Klopp is spot on. It only takes one bad day at the office and the Reds could be out of the title race.

The final stage of the season is certainly going to be stressful for both Liverpool and Manchester City supporters.

A title race is exciting, but it sometimes is not enjoyable for the fans that are involved.

Liverpool have Arsenal's number

Liverpool have defeated Arsenal on three out of four occasions (two in the Premier League and once in the League Cup) this season.

The Reds have scored eight goals without conceding against the Gunners during the 2021-22 campaign.

It would be fair to say that Arsenal have had enough of Liverpool for one season.
