The key talking points from Liverpool's 1-0 win over West Ham United

Liverpool defeated West Ham United 1-0 at Anfield last weekend.

Reds winger Sadio Mane scored the only goal of the Premier League fixture after 27 minutes of action.

Below are the key talking points from the match.

The quadruple is still possible

Liverpool won the League Cup just over a week ago. The Reds are very much in contention to claim the 2022 Premier League title, Champions League and FA Cup.

In other words, Liverpool have a serious chance of claiming the quadruple this season.

However, Jurgen Klopp's side could easily have been out of the Premier League title race had they not defeated West Ham United last weekend.

League leaders Manchester City currently possess a six-point lead over the Reds. However, the Citizens have played an extra match.

Had Liverpool not secured the three points last weekend, it would be fair to say that the title race would have been well and truly over.

The Citizens have won three of the past four titles. Therefore, Liverpool can't really afford to drop points at the backend of the season.

Trent Alexander-Arnold was superb

Alexander-Arnold performed superbly against West Ham United. The right-back was lively in attack and defended when he needed to.

Alexander-Arnold set up Liverpool's only goal of the match. The Scouser also completed three interceptions/tackles against the Hammers.

Alexander-Arnold has been criticised by plenty of people in the past regarding his ability without the ball. But, Klopp jumped to the 23-year-old's defense post-match.

“Absolutely, I don’t understand [the criticism] that, that’s true, but I don’t think I will change that with whatever I will say,” said Klopp in his post-match press conference, as quoted by The Mirror.

“But if he couldn’t defend, he would not play here – at least not that in that position.

“He improved in all departments and defending of course as well, but he is that young that he can improve and has to improve, but yes, his defending is not a problem we have.”

Luis Diaz impressed

Diaz certainly looked lively against West Ham United. The winger registered a WhoScored player rating of 6.99 against the Hammers.

Diaz also had five shots on goal. But, he could not find the back of the net against West Ham United.

A goal was the only thing missing from Diaz's performance against the Hammers last weekend.

Former Red Graeme Souness was also impressed with the Colombia international.

As quoted by The Daily Mail, the 68-year-old told Sky Sports the following after the match: "He'll have given everyone a lift.

"He's a player that if you're a supporter he gets you on the edge of your seat. He's direct, he's quick, he's aggressive.

"He does that thing which crowds love; he loses the ball, sprints back and puts a tackle in to win it back. He goes past people for fun.

"He's quick, he's direct. There's a lot to like about him and this system will suit him perfectly.

"He's just another absolute threat that Liverpool have. Defenders don't like to play against people who can go past you with either pace or drop of the shoulder and it looks like he's got both.

"Super dangerous. A real asset to Liverpool."

It did not quite happen for Mohamed Salah

Salah was not at his best against West Ham United. The forward failed to find the back of the net last weekend, which we don't say often.

Salah has scored 152 goals and registered 57 assists in 236 appearances for the club's first-team.

Therefore, we fully expect to the Egyptian international to bounce back. Liverpool's next clash is against Inter Milan at Anfield.

The second leg of the last-16 Champions League tie will kick-off at 20:00 on Tuesday night.
