"The high line is a risk" - Jurgen Klopp on Liverpool's setup

Jurgen Klopp has given his thoughts on Liverpool's defensive high line.

The Reds were battered by Napoli at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium last night. The Serie A side defeated the Premier League team 4-1.

The Napoli forwards got in behind Liverpool's defence on a number of occasions. Klopp has given his thoughts on as to why that occurred.

The club boss told Liverpoolfc.com the following: "The high line is a risk if you don’t get pressure on the ball and use it. If you have a high line and you don’t put any pressure on the guy on the ball then, yes, then it’s a risk.

"But that’s usually not the case, the problem is not the high line, we need a high line to be compact, the problem is we were never close enough to put the opponent under pressure."

Anfield Watch Verdict

Losing 4-1 to begin your Champions League campaign is not ideal. Luckily for Liverpool, there are still five group stage games remaining.

The Reds will face Ajax at Anfield next Tuesday night. But, Liverpool have a Premier League fixture against Wolverhampton Wanderers at home on Saturday to deal with first.

In an ideal world, we would love to see the Reds challenge for both the Champions League and Premier League title this season.

But, as things stand, Liverpool are not defending well enough to win either trophy this campaign.

It is sad to see the Reds not competing. At the end of the day, there is nothing better than seeing your team win silverware.
