"The grass is not always greener" - Pundit on Sadio Mane moving to Bayern Munich
Paul Merson believes that Sadio Mane could be making a mistake moving to Bayern Munich this summer.
The Liverpool winger has been linked with a move to the Allianz Arena.
Speaking to the Daily Star, as cited by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, Merson said that he doesn't think moving to Bayern is a good move for Mane.
"It seems clear Sadio Mane has his heart set on a move to Bayern Munich but I can’t for the life of me see why. The grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence," he said.
“There are no guarantees that he will be as successful in Germany as he has been with Liverpool. Since his arrival from Southampton six years ago Liverpool have played a way that suits his game and goals could dry up in a different set-up and a different league.
“It is a brave move to make if he wants a fresh challenge and is backing himself to make a success of it. His relationship with Klopp and the club has been so good that the club will have known about this for a while.
“They will have been planning to recover and renew up front."
Anfield Watch Verdict
Moving to Bayern would be a very bold move for Mane. He had a bit of a rough time with us before he returned from the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year, but since then, he's been one of our best forward players.
The only issue I see is where does he play? He's not a striker and when he's been on the wing for Liverpool this season he has failed to impress.
However, I think Mane is built for the Bundesliga. He is fast and powerful and if he can start to be a bit more direct, I think he'll succeed.
Saying that, we've seen what happens to players who leave Liverpool and as Merson said, "the grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence".
