"The goal I scored" - Luis Diaz's brutal honesty regarding his goal against Napoli
Liverpool forward Luis Diaz has spoken about the goal he scored against Napoli at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium last night.
The Colombia international found the back of the net after 49 minutes of action. However, the issue was Diaz scored when Napoli were already 4-0 up.
With that being the case, the 25-year-old took no joy from scoring against the Serie A side.
“The goal I scored was worthless. It would have been important if it helped the team more," he told ESPN, as quoted by Anfield Watch on Twitter.
“After I scored the goal, I felt much better emotionally and it was easier. I had that confidence, that desire to get the team going and try to turn the result around. But it was complicated because they were already many goals ahead.
“We have to improve and look at what is being done for what is coming, which is much more important. We are in this together and I know that this will change.”
Anfield Watch Verdict
Diaz is a winner. So, his comments do not surprise us at all.
Diaz has been solid for Liverpool in the past nine months. The Colombia international has scored 10 goals and registered five assists in 34 appearances for the Reds' first-team, which backs up the aforementioned argument.
Diaz is contracted until the conclusion of the 2026-27 campaign. Hopefully the 25-year-old can propel Liverpool towards a trophy or two in the years to come.
The exciting thing about Diaz is that he is still very young. Therefore, he is far from the finished article.
