"The best midfielder the Premier League has ever seen" - Pundit on Steven Gerrard
Pundit Jamie O'Hara has praised former Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard.
The 42-year-old was a serious footballer for the Reds. Gerrard scored 186 goals and registered 153 assists in 710 appearances for the club's first-team.
The Scouser also won nine major trophies with Liverpool - including the Champions League.
O'Hara believes that Gerrard is the best midfielder the Premier League has ever seen.
As quoted by Anfield Watch on Twitter, he told talkSPORT the following: “Gerrard goes down for me as the best midfielder the Premier League has ever seen. I played against (Paul) Scholes, I played against Gerrard, I played against (Frank) Lampard.
"For me, Gerrard was on another planet to any other player that I walked on a football pitch with. He was unbelievable, he was a machine.
"I walked off the pitch when I played against him and was like, ‘Oh my word, I’ve come up against a player that I couldn’t get near in any single form of the game’. Heading, crossing, passing, strength, decision-making, awareness, pace, ability – he had everything.
"He carried the club on his back for how many years? (Kevin) De Bruyne is an amazing player. He will go down as one of the greats in the Premier League, but not the greatest. The greatest midfielder the Premier League has ever seen in Steven Gerrard. Without a shadow of a doubt."
Anfield Watch Verdict
We do agree with O'Hara's opinion. Gerrard could do everything. He was a complete midfielder.
Gerrard carried Liverpool through some very dark days. For us, the 42-year-old is the greatest player to ever wear the famous red shirt.
It is highly unlikely that we will see another Gerrard in our lifetimes. He was built differently.
Gerrard is now the manager of Aston Villa. Perhaps one day he will manage the Reds. But, only time will tell if that is to be the case.
We wish Gerrard all the best for the future.
