"The best full-back in the league by a mile" - Gary Neville on Liverpool's Andy Robertson
Pundit Gary Neville has put Liverpool's Andy Robertson ahead of Manchester City's Joao Cancelo in his Premier League Team of the Season.
During Sky Sports' Monday night football programme, Neville said that Robertson has had a better season at left-back than City's Cancelo, as cited by Anfield Watch's Twitter account.
"I absolutely love Joao Cancelo but I can’t ignore Robertson," he said. "The best full-back in the league by a mile - he does both things incredibly well, eight and nine, this is not Mr Steady, eight and nines out of 10 every week.
"Him down the left-hand side when it matters, hurting, he is unbelievable. He does more than you know, obviously, he’s been overshadowed at times by Trent (Alexander-Arnold), who has unbelievable delivery which is good to watch. But Robertson is the best full-back in the league by a mile.
"In terms of attacking and defensive content, I think put both together he’s the best by a mile."
Anfield Watch Verdict
While I 100% agree with Neville that Robertson is better than Cancelo, I can see why people would place the Portuguese full-back ahead of the Scottish captain in this campaign's Team of the Season.
Robertson had a fairly poor start to the season and there were even calls for Kostas Tsimikas to come in and replace him.
More recently, the 28-year-old has been looking fairly fatigued in recent games, meaning that his back-up, Tsimikas, has been getting more minutes.
However, Robertson has been the best left-back in world football since he joined the Reds in 2017 for the bargain fee of £8 million.
According to Transfermarkt, Robertson is now worth £58.5 million, making him the seventh most valued defender.
Not bad for a player who was relegated with Hull City before he joined the Reds.
