Liverpool have secured the signing of Celtic attacking midfielder Ben Doak.

The Athletic has confirmed, as cited by LFC Transfer Room on Twitter, that the Reds have paid a compensation fee of around 600,000 to the Scottish Premiership club for the 16-year-old.

Despite Doak's age, he has made two appearances for Celtic's first-team. As you can see below, an image of the youngster holding a Liverpool home kit has been leaked.

Anfield Watch Verdict

We are delighted to hear that the club has signed a player of Doak's age. The attacking midfielder's arrival highlights that the future is important for the club.

Recent comments from Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou highlight that Doak is beyond his years as a footballer.

"Ben's been training with us for a while,” the Australian said back in January, as quoted by The Scotsman.

“It was Stephen McManus (Celtic reserves manager), actually, who brought him into the group. He's a fantastic kid who comes from a good family. He looked really composed for his age.

"He's have grown up a bit today (making his Celtic first-team debut), it will given him a different perspective on life. He probably would have been on the other side of the terracing if he hadn't been playing!”

If Doak goes on to become a top player, the club will have saved a lot of money by signing him as a 16-year-old (not an established player).

But, we don't want to put too much pressure on the kid. Doak is still learning about the game. Besides, teenagers should be enjoying football rather than worrying about it.

We wish Doak all the best going forward. Everyone at Anfield Watch is behind him. Hopefully the attacking midfielder achieves his goals.
