"That’s the Salah we’re getting at the moment" - Ian Wright on Reds winger
Former Arsenal forward Ian Wright has given his verdict on Mohamed Salah's recent form.
The winger has only scored two goals in his last eight appearances for Liverpool. Despite that being the case, Salah has still found the back of the net 30 times in 43 matches for the Reds this season.
However, Wright believes that the Egyptian international's recent form slump is down to one reason.
As quoted by HITC, the Englishman told his podcast the following: “I watched Mo (Salah) again against Everton, and if Liverpool can’t switch it quick enough for him to get the ball and go at one person, if they take their time, and Everton did it well in the first-half, I find that switch, sometimes by the time it gets to him, there are two people there, and you know he’s going to feint down the right and cut down the left and lay it back to Trent (Alexander-Arnold) or whoever is there.
“We’ve seen him score goals when he dribbles through two or three players and score, but people are wise to the fact that when the ball goes out there, they need to get players over to him, and that’s what’s happening with Mo, the ball isn’t going for him when he’s trying to go through, and it breaks down, that’s the Salah we’re getting at the moment.”
Anfield Watch Verdict
As Wright said, Salah has been copping a fair bit of attention from opposition players lately. But, good footballers always find a way to overcome adversity.
Salah is one of the best players on the planet. With that being the case, we are confident that he will return to his best.
Hopefully Salah can fire Liverpool to a first leg victory over Villarreal in the Champions League tonight (semi-finals).
The winger is more than capable of winning a big game all by himself. However, only time will tell if that is to be the case.
