'That would hurt City' - Jamie Carragher on how Liverpool can hurt Man City's title hopes

Speaking after the Crystal Palace vs Manchester City draw on Monday, former Liverpool player Jamie Carragher said that Liverpool need to beat Arsenal on Wednesday to put the pressure on City.

Pep Guardiola's Manchester City side dropped two important points against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

City were on top for the whole game and they missed three sitters. Fortunately for Liverpool, Palace held strong and came away with a 0-0 draw, meaning if Liverpool beat Arsenal today the gap at the top is reduced to one point.

Considering that at one point this season Jurgen Klopp's side were 14 points behind the Citizen's, Liverpool have done extraordinarily well to close the gap.

Speaking on Monday Night Football, as cited by Anfield Watch, former Liverpool player Jamie Carragher said that if the Reds can beat Arsenal on Wednesday, it will 'psychologically hurt City'.

“I think if Liverpool win away at Arsenal, psychologically that would really hurt City,” said Carragher.

“Arsenal away and Manchester City away are the two big problems in Liverpool’s fixture list. Manchester City watching at home, Liverpool win at Arsenal, and go within a point and then they play Watford, you expect them to beat Watford.

“I actually think the fixtures, the next four for Liverpool and the next three for Manchester City could play a massive part. I do think the toughest games are right upon us right now."

Once Liverpool play Arsenal today then there will only be nine Premier League games left to play for both Liverpool and Manchester City.

Pep's side have dropped seven points since the new year, while the Reds are currently on an eight-game win streak, only dropping two points this year.

If Liverpool beat Arsenal, who are on a great run of games at the moment, it will be huge. Hopefully, the absence of Mohamed Salah won't hamper our chances too much against the Gunners.
