"That was the problem" - Fabinho on his failed knee slide celebration
Fabinho has spoken about his infamous celebration against Benfica when he failed at doing a classic knee slide.
Speaking to Liverpool FC, as cited by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, Fabinho said that even though he failed the celebration, he's going to do it again to show it was an accident.
“I don't know if I can celebrate like this because I never do this when I score. I stand up, I never do a slide. But when I saw Ibou running to do a slide, I said, 'Ah, let's do this as well' because I was happy with the goal.”
“I was happy for him. It didn't work really well. I think for my next celebration I will try to do it again to just show it was an accident and the pitch was a little bit dry and that was the problem!”
Anfield Watch Verdict
Fabinho's celebration definitely got more coverage than Ibrahima Konate scoring his first goal for Liverpool. Saying that, it was a very entertaining moment!
What would top this saga off would be if Fab did the exact same when he attempted to do the celebration again. Twitter would have a field day with it.
One of our best 'knee sliders' at Liverpool is Trent Alexander-Arnold. If Fabinho wants some pointers on how to do the perfect one then he should speak to the young Scouser.
We might not have to wait long to see the Brazilian attempt it either as this season he's been scoring a fair few goals, seven goals in all competitions.
During AFCON, Fabinho took up the role of taking penalties and in the same interview with Liverpool, as cited by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, he said that he is 'always ready' to score.
“This is the first season that I am taking penalties here. I always try to be ready for the occasion to shoot a penalty or in a corner or free-kick to be alive inside the box. The ball is just coming to me and I'm just scoring.”
