"That night" - Pep Lijnders reflects on Liverpool's victory over Barcelona

Liverpool assistant boss Pep Lijnders has reflected on the club's victory over Barcelona back in 2019.

The Reds came up against the La Liga side in the Champions League semi-finals. Barcelona won the first leg 3-0 at the Nou Camp.

However, Liverpool won the second leg 4-0 at Anfield to progress to the final in Madrid. Lijnders has recently reflected on the Reds' performance in the second leg.

The Dutchman believes that all the Liverpool players took their game to another level on that particular night.

“That night, every player reached a new level. Divock Origi and Xherdan Shaqiri coming into the team and doing what they did," he told The Coaches Voice, as quoted by Anfield Watch on Twitter.

“Our core players doing what they did; the most energised midfield at that time, which it had to be if we wanted to be all over them.

“We chased with all we had. I always say if that game had lasted 120 minutes, we would have chased for 120 minutes. When we lost the ball, we worked to always win it back immediately.

“And the stadium, the fans, the feeling, the noise. Just the most incredible night. A night that defines this team, and why we are where we are now.

“I think if you want to explain to your kids your love for football, then you would show them that game. And if you want to show that you should never give up in life, show them that game.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

Watching Liverpool defeat Barcelona 4-3 on aggregate was special. Jurgen Klopp's team went on to defeat Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 in the final.

Liverpool have been good in the Champions League under the German. The Reds have played in three European Cup finals, which backs up the aforementioned argument.

Hopefully Liverpool can have a good run in the Champions League this season. But, only time will tell if that is to be the case.
