Ten years ago today: Luis Suarez scores four in Norwich City thrashing

Liverpool scored four absolute stunners against Fulham on Sunday afternoon and it's rather fitting that today marks ten years since Luis Suarez scored four beauties of his own against Norwich City.

A Bernd Leno own goal via a fabulous Trent Alexander-Arnold free-kick was added to by fantastic efforts from Alexis Mac Allister, Wataru Endo and Alexander-Arnold once more as the Reds staged a thrilling contest with the Cottagers.

It was a memorable victory for Jurgen Klopp's side but there was another remarkable outing at Anfield a decade ago to this very day.

It was, of course, Suarez's half-yearly torment of Norwich, this particular demolition of the Canaries coming in December 2013 in a 5-1 victory.

Suarez, who scored 12 goals in just six matches against Norwich, bagged four on Merseyside, all of which were of a supremely high standard.

The Uruguayan's first came after a quarter-of-an-hour, a stunning strike from 35 yards that looped over helpless Norwich goalkeeper John Ruddy. His second, while not quite as sensational, was a well-taken left-footed effort from an in-swinging corner.

The former Liverpool forward would complete his hat-trick before half-time, collecting a pass from Philippe Coutinho, juggling the ball forward five yards, flicking over the head of a Norwich defender and firing home on the volley from just outside the penalty area.

But Suarez wasn't done yet. The formidable striker would have his fourth after 74 minutes, this time an inch-perfect free-kick that bent just beyond the fingertips of Ruddy from 25 yards.

Raheem Sterling also got in on the act after Bradley Johnson had netted a consolation, but it was Suarez, and only Suarez, who took the plaudits at Anfield.

It remains one of the most remarkable individual performances of the Premier League era, all four goals oozing class.

Suarez would finish his Liverpool career as one of the Reds' most iconic attackers of the 21st century, finishing with 82 goals and 46 assists in 133 matches.

Ten years on and Liverpool now have another memorable four-goal haul to savour thanks to Sunday's exploits.
