4 talking points from Liverpool's 3-1 win over Leicester in the Carabao Cup

Liverpool continued their unbeaten start to the season with yet another 3-1 victory, once again having to come from behind, this time against Leicester in the Carabao Cup.

Kasey McAteer opened the scoring for the Foxes in just the third minute of the third-round tie at Anfield on Wednesday. However, second-half strikes from Cody Gakpo, Dominik Szoboszlai and Diogo Jota completed the Reds comeback in style.

Jurgen Klopp fielded a much changed starting XI to the ones fans have become accustomed to in the Premier League.

Curtis Jones at right back

With Trent Alexander-Arnold still out, and both Joe Gomez and Stefan Bajcetic rested you might wonder who else could fill the right-back role?

Joel Matip, maybe? Wataru Endo has played there before... Maybe even youngster Jarell Quansah.

You’d be forgiven for having doubts when Curtis Jones lined up on the right side of defence last night, but he certainly didn’t let his side down.

“The way he executed it was super-special, I have to say,” praised Jurgen Klopp at full time. “Wow. Super-smart. He enjoys being on the ball and the deeper you are the more often you can get the ball. It was a top performance, I have to say, for the first time in – for him – a strange position. He did really well, and I liked that a lot.

"He is in a good moment, so he could probably play each position in the moment. But we will try to use him as often as possible in his natural position.”

Jones, who was also captain on the night, has enjoyed a brilliant start to the season, and by the looks of it he isn’t stopping anytime soon.

Dominik Szoboszlai in his Gerrard era

Wow. Wow. Wow. Who on earth have we signed?

Game after game, Dominik Szoboszlai continues to shine for Liverpool.

Like the very best signings of the Klopp era, the Hungarian's arrival came out of nowhere, but he’s slotted into the side with ease.

Brought on in the 65^th minute with the game still all square, Liverpool's number eight only needed five minutes to get his name on the scoresheet, and it was an absolute screamer.

Picking the ball up outside the area, the midfielder takes a touch, pushes the ball out of his feet and unleashes a perfect strike into the top left-hand corner, crashing off the crossbar for added aesthetic beauty.

I’ve timed 2.46 seconds from Szoboszlai’s first touch to the ball smacking the Leicester net. The man is fast.

The youngsters shine (again)

Quansah and Ben Doak were both given starts again on Wednesday night, and neither looked out of place one bit.

Liverpool’s 20-year-old centre-back played the full 90, and also ended the match with a brilliant assist for Jota’s goal. Steaming down the right side, before playing a lovely, fast ball into the forward who flicked a wonderful effort into the bottom corner.

Doak may not have had a goal contribution and was replaced by Szoboszlai in the 65^th minute, but amazingly, still at the age of 17, the Scotsman looked as experienced as anyone else on the pitch.

Liverpool’s academy is the gift that keeps on giving recently, and Klopp won’t be worried about the future of this club at all.

Wataru Endo comes to life

It was certainly an unexpected signing when Wataru Endo was announced as a Liverpool player, and the midfielder hasn’t always had the easiest of times since his move.

After a couple tough performances against Newcastle in the Premier League and LASK in the Europa League, Endo needed a solid game, and he did just that against Leicester.

The Japan captain was everywhere on Wedneday: in defence, in attack, in the transition, Endo just did not stop.

A 90% pass accuracy, 67 touches, two big chances created, 11 passes into the final third, five out of five accurate long balls, the list goes on.

And to cap it all off, Endo – who was voted by Anfield Watch followers as their Player of the Match – got his first Liverpool assist, playing a threaded ball for Szoboszlai’s strike.
