Steven Gerrard shoots down rumours of Mason Greenwood transfer
Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has responded emphatically to rumours that Mason Greenwood could sign for Al Ettifaq.
The 21-year-old forward will leave Manchester United by 'mutual consent' after the club completed an internal investigation into allegations made about domestic violence on Monday.
It had been reported that United intended to keep and reintegrate Greenwood into their first-team squad, only for the club to seemingly U-turn on that decision following a public backlash to the leaking of their plans.
There has been much speculation about where Greenwood will continue his career, with reports indicating (depressingly) that he will not be short of suitors.
The Mirror reported that the player's most likely next destination is 'Turkey or Saudi Arabia', while there were other rumours that claimed that the one-cap England international could find a home with Saudi Pro League side Al Ettifaq, who are managed by Gerrard and captained by Jordan Henderson.
One article even went as far as to claim Greenwood would be offered a £10m-a-year salary – a significant increase on his United terms.

However, the rumour was quickly shot down by Gerrard who posted an image of a Daily Mail article on Instagram with the words 'fake news' emblazoned in capitals over the top.
A subsequent Mail article claims "there is believed to be hesitancy from within the Saudi Pro League to sign Greenwood given the risk of a public backlash."
Al Ettifaq, based in the Saudi city of Dammam, famously landed Henderson as their marquee signing this summer, paying £12m to secure the Liverpool captain, while reportedly dishing out income tax-free wages of around £350k a week.
Henderson has ex-Fulham and Celtic striker Moussa Dembele and Scotland international Jack Hendry as teammates.
Ex-Liverpool stars Roberto Firmino (Al Ahli), Fabinho (Al Ittihad) and Sadio Mane (Al Nassr) also play in the Saudi Pro League.
