Steve McManaman does not want Liverpool to sign reported target
Liverpool have recently been linked with a move for West Ham United winger Jarrod Bowen.
The 24-year-old has had a solid start to the 2021-22 Premier League season. Bowen has scored two goals and registered four assists in 11 appearances for the Hammers. The Englishman has also been averaging a WhoScored player rating of 7.42.
Despite that being the case, former Red Steve McManaman does not want to see the Reds make a move for Bowen.
"He’s a very good player. He’s doing really well at the moment. But hypothetically, if he signed for Liverpool tomorrow, then he wouldn’t play. So, I don’t see the point of it at the minute,” McManaman told Football London, as quoted by Football365.
“It could be a great move for him in terms of playing for Liverpool but he’s not going to get in ahead of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane or Diogo Jota.
“It’s always nice to have lots of players and I’m sure the manager would prefer to have 25 established internationals, but that’s not football.
“Bowen is playing really well at the moment for a club who are in the Champions League positions. Liverpool at the moment don’t need Jarrod Bowen.”
ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT
We do agree with McManaman that Bowen would not start for Liverpool. The 24-year-old winger is not as good as Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota.
However, we believe that you can never have too many good players in your squad. Therefore, we would not be against the Reds attempting to sign Bowen.
Due to the Englishman's age, his career is only just beginning. Bowen could be a long-term investment for the Reds.
The forward's contract does not expire until the summer of 2025. Transfermarkt value Bowen at €30 million.
