Sporting director confirms Liverpool loanee could return to Anfield come January
Swansea City sporting director Mark Allen has reportedly confirmed that centre-back Rhys Williams could return to Liverpool in January.
The 20-year-old joined the Swans on a season-long loan back in August. However, Williams has only played 476 minutes of football for the Championship club during the early parts of the 2021-22 campaign.
With that being the case, the Reds are apparently keen to discuss the defender's short-term future with Swansea City.
The aforementioned news was provided by Wales Online and cited by Anfield Edition's Twitter account.
ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT
The whole point of Williams being sent out on loan was to play regular senior football.
Therefore, the centre-back may as well return to Liverpool if he is not consistently playing for Swansea City's first-team.
On another note, we are surprised that Williams has not been given much of an opportunity to represent the Swans.
The defender averaged a WhoScored player rating of 6.71 across nine Premier League matches last season.
The aforementioned figures highlight that Williams would add something to Swansea City's defence.
