Of course, there are still steps to climb when you get to the U18s. First you have to play minutes, make your mark on the pitch and then only then will you be recognised as a potential first team player.
Some even have to take a third step and play for the U21s before getting that call-up.
The talent at Liverpool is abundant, and there is another youngster who has just emerged onto the scene and became a step closer to achieving his dream.
Talented wonderkid Tyler Martin makes his mark
Born in 2007, Tyler Martin only made his breakthrough at U18 level this season as a first year scholar. He only turned 17 years old in December, actually celebrating his birthday on Christmas day.
So far his presence on the U18 team has been limited. As a right-winger there are a lot of players ahead of him in the pecking order.
But against Manchester United, with players being promoted to the first team and the U21s due to the Reds game against Plymouth in the FA Cup, Martin finally got his chance to play.
And he made his moment count.
Just as Liverpool looked down and out, and heading towards a defeat against their old rivals on their own home ground in the AXA training centre, Martin stepped up.
His volley which got deflected secured a draw for the young Reds in the 89th minute and will have given him a massive boost of confidence.
Especially, since Kenny Dalglish and Michael Thomas, two Liverpool legends were watching on from the side-lines.
That goal is Martin's first goal at this level, and it's a huge landmark for him.
It's one of the next steps that takes him that little bit closer to Slot's first team. Now he just needs to continue building on the momentum, continue to take his moments and within time he will be a touching distance away from his dream.

After a goal like that, he's certainly one to keep a close eye on. The academy is clearly rife with talent.
