Real Madrid's Marco Asensio has praised Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah in a recent interview.

Speaking to Egyptian outlet Dostor, as cited by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, the Real Madrid player said that Salah is 'one of the best players in the world.'

"Mohamed Salah is one of the best players in the world, and he was at the forefront of football for many years, he is in a wonderful club like Liverpool, who fought and competed to win great titles over many years," said Asensio.

"Salah, in short, is a player with a special and great talent and a very good left foot that he plays with distinction, it is always a pleasure to watch any game he plays in."

Anfield Watch Verdict

It's always nice to see opposition players praise Liverpool players. With Asensio doing it though it does bring up some old rumours surrounding him joining the Reds one day.

A few years ago, we were linked with signing the Spaniard but we never pulled the trigger and he ended up staying at Real Madrid.

In more recent news, Spanish outlet El Nacional, as cited by LFC Transfer Room, claimed that Asensio knows that there are Premier League clubs, Liverpool and Arsenal, who would be interested in signing him.

Asensio's contract expires at the end of next season and currently, Madrid are only offering him a contract worth €4.5m with an individual clause that, if fulfilled, could reach €6m.

However, the interest from Premier League clubs could see him get a contract worth at least €7m, without any individual clauses.

If the 26-year-old is wanting that much to stay at Real Madrid then the Spanish side could decide to sell him this summer so they are not at a complete loss with him leaving.

Also, with rumours still about that they are looking to sign Aurelian Tchouameni, Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe next summer, any extra money will surely come in handy for Madrid.
